|
|
| Accessing the Page |
Get connected to internet. Launch your browser (e.g. Netscape/Internet Explorer/Opera etc). |
| Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rimcollians |
| Yahoo insists that all users making use of Yahoo' services must obtain a Yahoo ID. You will be led through the process till you get a t a YahooID for yourself. Once that is accomplished, you can view the web site. |
| Repeat Visitors:- If you have visited Rimcollian Yahoogroups Home Page earlier, enter your YahooID and password at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rimcollians and you will be given access to the home page. (If `cookies' are enabled, you may not even need to do this). If you have forgotten your password, read the `Important Instructions' relating to password given on that page. There is a `Click' tag under this important notice, and once you click that and give your email address, a new password/validation number will be generated and sent to your email address. |
| The next screen will have `My Yahoogroups' or Rimcollian Yahoogroup' highlighted. |
| Click on that and you reach Rimcollians Yahoogroups web page. Explore by clicking on various tabs like Messages/Members/Database/Files etc. |
| Privacy |
| Only members can view the details of the group, post messages or read messages. Any mail from any intruder will either be rejected or sent to the Manager for his perusal and appropriate action. |
| Your unique identity within the Group |
| Please remember this very critical point. Your unique identity within the Group is the e-mail address under which you have registered with the Group. When you originate mail to Rimcollians Yahoogroup, the `From' column of your message header is minutely checked for an absolute match. (Please note that if you are registered as xxx@del3.vsnl.net.in and subsequently you have got a shortened address of the form xxx@vsnl.com , that may be OK by you. Yahoogroups considers these two addresses as entirely different from each other). If there is even a slight variation, the message is deemed as originating from a non-member and is rejected. |
| Similarly if you wish to originate mail from more than a single e-mail address, you can add such address/addresses as `alias' address/addresses by editing `My Profile'. You can add up to 5 alias addresses from which you will be permitted to originate e-mail to Yahoogroups. However, outgoing mail will be delivered to your primary registered e-mail address only. |
| Modifications to your Email Address |
| Often I get requests from Rimcollians Yahoogroup subscribers informing me of a change in their email address with a further request that I reflect the change in Yahoogroups so that mail flows to the new email address. Any modification to your email address can only be done by the subscriber. The manager has not been provided with any cockpit controls to modify a subscriber's email address. After modifying the address, please inform me so that I could keep my database up-to-date. |
| You can modify your email address by going to Rimcollians Yahoogroup web page, logging in and editing `My Profile'. Each member must develop the capability to access the web page to undertake these minor housekeeping choresz. |
| Non-Receipt of Email from Yahoogroups |
It may be due to two reasons. |
-
Your address has not changed but your mailbox is full to the brim (exceeded the disk quota allocated by your Internet Service Provider). That provokes your email provider to bounce your messages back to the sender. After repeated bounces, Yahoogroups considers you a nuisance and will automatically revoke your membership.
|
|
Remedy this situation by clearing your mail box regularly or by modifying your email address with Rimcollian Yahoogroup |
| Posting of Messages |
Mail sent to rimcollians@yahoogroups.com will be automatically transmitted to all members of the group instantaneously. That is the default option for the group |
If you are clicking the `reply' button in respect of a received message, your reply will be sent only to the originator of the message and not to Rimcollians Yahoogroup. |
Message meant for a specific Rimcollian, or a limited number of them, must be sent as private mail to respective addressees and not sent to rimcollians@yahoogroups.com. Otherwise you are likely to cause irritation to many. |
| Receiving Mail |
The default setting is `Receive by e-mail'. There are two other options i.e. `Receive a daily digest' and `Read on Web only'. You can edit `My Profile' to effect these changes or approach the manager of the group. |
| Logging out from Rimcollians Yahoogroups Web Page |
When you are logging in from public terminals like Cyber Parlours or from someone else's computer, do not tick the option `Remember Me' which you can see on the opening page of Rimcollians Yahoogroup web page login area.. This is to prevent `cookies' being stored in that computer which may make it easy, for someone else logging in after you, to access the web page. Please click `logout' when you are leaving the web page. (Read more about cookies from the `Files' section of the home page). |
