About ROBA
Genesis of ROBA
RIMC Old Boys Association has been functioning under the name and style of ROBA for a long period of time. However the Association was not registered, nor where there any rules framed on its governance. The senior most serving service officer normally presided over its functioning and the executive committee was normally a nominated one. Barring a single member, there was no representation from the non military crowd The gatherings were normally service oriented with hardly any room for thoughts from `outsiders'.
The life membership of the association was a paltry Rs 500/-. Not being adept at proper financial management or at husbanding their resources, the entire amount received was spent on welfare measures for the school and the staff. No corpus was built up.
Besides the elders, very few of the junior lot ever bothered to try and rectify matters. In fact, most of the Rimcollians do not even know `what they are supposed to pay up' or `if they have paid up'.
If `dues' were `due' I am sure that none of would have defaulted. Furthermore, with this state of affairs continuing over a great period of time, confidence in the ROBA, to look after its financial administration, diminished,
In recent years, the younger generation began to take a greater interest in the ROBA and executive committee members were invited from different time periods of RIMC. Further, more civilian colleagues were requested to actively participate. All Rimcollians were exhorted to re-register by paying a fresh amount of Rs 1000/- irrespective of the payment of the membership fee which was in vogue earlier.
With this fresh interest generated amongst Rimcollians, the question of regularizing the ROBA came up and was accepted. The process is now complete except that it needs registration with the Income Tax Authorities. The ROBA President would continue to be the senior most serving officer with the executive committee members being elected,at the AGM, with terms not exceeding three years. ie 33% of the executive committee members would retire each year. All monetary contributions received on account of membership would form a corpus
